Answer with Books
Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 6, 2026
1. Who operates this service
Answer with Books is operated by AnswerWithBooks. This policy describes the website at answerwithbooks.com. Contact details and privacy-request instructions appear below.
2. Accounts and newsletter choices
Creating an account provides an email address and, for password signup, a password to Supabase Auth. Supabase handles authentication and verification emails. We store account preferences and selected shelf books. Account creation and sign-in do not subscribe you to marketing.
The Subscribe form separately records your email, newsletter consent version, submission time, and originating page. It does not create an account or request a sign-in email. A successful response confirms the request was accepted, not delivery to an inbox. Existing newsletter opt-outs are preserved. Native subscriptions do not automatically sync to Substack; following an optional Substack link is a separate subscription under its policies.
3. Private uploads, books, and skills
When you upload a source, the original file is stored in the private-books storage bucket in Supabase. Extracted text, processing progress, source references, and generated book and skill artifacts are stored with your account. Access is restricted to the owning account through authorization checks and storage rules; operators and service providers may access data as needed to operate, secure, and support the service.
Our server sends extracted source sections and notes to OpenAI to create the book and skill. A title and limited summary context are sent to generate an original cover. These requests incur provider costs borne by the service under the current preview. The provider processes the requests under its applicable service terms. Upload only material you are authorized to provide to these services.
Downloaded book-and-skill bundles include the extracted source text so citation line numbers can be checked. Copy prompt for your AI includes generated book and skill text; it does not automatically open or send anything to an external agent. When you paste or upload a bundle into another service, that service receives the content under its policies.
4. Shelf sharing and browser storage
Public shelf links contain public book identifiers. They do not include your email, account ID, private uploads, or personal shelf title. A share image can contain your displayed name and the date; review it before sharing. Recipients may keep copies.
Your browser stores the sign-in session, reading activity, consent choices, and some preferences. Activity labeled “on this browser” does not sync across devices. Clearing site data can sign you out and remove local activity; it does not delete your account or uploaded sources. Some earlier versions stored newsletter/signup progress temporarily; that state is no longer used to initiate account creation.
Some older direct-link tools still accept book requests, feedback, or content maps. When used, they send the submitted text, contact or account information, and selected visibility to Supabase. Public maps may be read and copied by other visitors. Optional book matching sends a short title or extracted-text query to Open Library. Review the submission and visibility before saving.
5. Analytics and technical services
Optional Google Analytics stays off until you allow it. Public pages offer an Allow analytics / No thanks choice; either choice is remembered for 180 days. We disable advertising personalization, omit URL query strings and fragments from the initial analytics page URL, and exclude account and private-book routes. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track keep analytics off. You can withdraw consent below or through Privacy choices; it expires after 180 days. Google Fonts receives technical requests for typography and image export even with analytics disabled.
With analytics consent, “View on Amazon” records a book identifier, product identifier, marketplace, and placement. These are outbound clicks, not confirmed purchases. We do not receive Amazon order details.
Hosting and service providers process technical request data to deliver and protect the service. Newsletter rate limiting stores a daily keyed IP-derived hash, not a raw IP in the subscription table. Infrastructure logs may retain request information separately.
Your analytics choice
Optional Google Analytics helps us understand website usage. It stays off unless you allow it. You can keep using Answer with Books either way.
Optional analytics is off.
6. Use, retention, and sharing
We use data to provide requested accounts, private processing, saved preferences, security, support, and separately requested newsletters. Supabase provides authentication and storage; OpenAI processes uploaded source text and cover requests; hosting providers deliver the site. We do not automatically import your ChatGPT history.
Records are retained while needed for these purposes and applicable obligations. There is no general automatic deletion schedule. Request account or upload deletion using the contact below. Minimal newsletter suppression records can remain to respect opt-outs. Clearing browser data does not cancel consent or erase server records.
Where a processing basis is required, requested features support performance of our agreement, optional analytics and newsletters rely on consent, and security and support serve our legitimate interests subject to your rights. We may disclose information as reasonably needed to comply with law or address security incidents and legal claims.
Our Supabase project is hosted in the United States; other providers may process data in other countries. Access controls reduce risk but cannot guarantee security. Private storage is not an enterprise confidentiality agreement. Assess organizational requirements before uploading workplace information.
7. Your choices and requests
Browse public books without an account. Use an account without subscribing. To request access, correction, export, or deletion, email the contact below and identify the account or upload concerned. Do not include passwords. We may verify ownership before disclosing data or making destructive changes.
To unsubscribe, email from the subscribed address with “Unsubscribe.” No account login or explanation is required. We process opt-outs before further marketing sends; essential account/security emails are separate. You may have additional rights under applicable law, including objection, restriction, portability, appeal, or complaint to a regulator. Withdrawing consent does not affect earlier lawful processing.
8. Audience and changes
The service supports adult learning and is not directed to children. Contact us if a child has provided information. We update the revision date for policy changes and provide further notice where required. See the Terms of Use.
